You may be wondering why I would [put an electric grinder on the list when I’ve already explained why you should use a manual Turkish coffee grinder.

As the name would imply, it’s a traditional drink found in Turkey and other parts of the world like Greece, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.
It is steeped similarly to how tea is steeped; only the water is brought to a near boil with the coffee grounds and sugar already in the mixture.
You can also add certain spices like cardamom for a more unique and warming flavor.
The difference between drip coffee and Turkish coffee is that you will drink the grounds in a Turkish coffee, which is why they must be very fine.
How Do I Prepare a Turkish Coffee
Preparing a Turkish coffee isn’t as complicated as it seems, and the final product is a strong and delicious drink with a bold taste.
Here’s what you need to know about this unique brewing method.
Here are the materials and Ingredients you’ll need
- In addition to your coffee, you’re going to need cold water—filtered is best—granulated sugar, Turkish coffee cups, and a cezve.
- A cezve is a special pot for brewing your Turkish coffee. It has a wide bottom and is traditionally made of copper or brass, but you can find a more modern design to fit your kitchen’s style if you prefer.
- If you want to add spices, like cinnamon or cardamom, have them near, as well. Of course, you’ll need your Turkish coffee grinder, too.
- Grind Your Coffee; bring your preferred beans to a fine powder.
- Mix Coffee, Water, and Sugar in Your Cezve
Turkish coffee differs from your classic cup of Joe in a few key ways.
To start, you’ll add your sugar at the beginning of the process, not at the end. If one of your guests requests an unsweetened cup of coffee, then brew their cup first and add the sugar to make the remaining coffee.

Keep it at a medium-high heat temperature until the coffee begins to sink and you notice the sugar dissolving. Reduce the heat and stir carefully and slowly but regularly until foam begins to form.
Ladle the Foam
Remove your coffee from the heat and carefully spoon some of the foam into however many coffee cups you are making.
Return it to the heat
Heat the coffee for another few seconds and then pour over the foam,

A manual coffee grinder will always get the finer powder, which is better for your next cup when given the option.
Is There a Difference Between Roasting Coffee Beans for Espresso and Turkish Coffee
Not a very big one. Most of the uniqueness of the Turkish coffee roasting experience comes from the process of heating the water, sugar, and finely ground coffee together.
The type of roast you use is really dependent on what kind of flavors you’re looking for and how strong you want your coffee to be.
Espresso is traditionally made with a dark roast, and while Turkish coffee is often as well, there’s more room for experimenting to match your tastes.
Is It Possible to Make a Turkish Coffee With An Espresso Machine
It’s not a good idea.

An espresso machine brews coffee by pushing pressurized water through the coffee puck to extract your espresso.
This will end up being a completely different drink, not resembling what you’re looking for at all.
You will also run the risk of clogging or breaking your espresso machine with a grind size that is so fine.
